Services
Settlement Workers in Schools Program
Services offered in London, Woodstock, and Sarnia
The Settlement Workers in Schools enable immigrant families to better understand the school environment in order to better support their children's educational journey. The Settlement Workers in Schools intervene on behalf of families and students to sensitize teachers to cultural uniqueness.
The Settlement Workers in Schools act as a bridge between schools, newcomer families, and local communities, facilitating communication among these stakeholders. The Settlement Workers in Schools program aims to:
Provide settlement services to newcomers in elementary and secondary schools.
Welcome French-speaking newcomer families.
Facilitate the integration of these families into Canadian society, promoting their well-being and the academic success of their children.
Settlement Program
Our needs assessment service ensures that the immediate needs of newcomers are met, that prompt referrals are made to the appropriate services, that clients' strengths are taken into consideration, and that an agreed settlement plan is developed, highlighting the responsibilities of both clients and staff to achieve positive outcomes within an expected and reasonable timeframe.
Volunteer Hub
The Volunteer Hub is an essential catalyst for volunteer engagement, providing a space where French-speaking newcomers can connect, contribute, and have a positive impact on their community. This Hub serves as a physical or virtual meeting point where interested volunteers can connect with organizations in need of voluntary assistance. It facilitates the volunteer engagement process by matching volunteers with opportunities that align with their interests, skills, and availability.
The Volunteer Hub promotes:
The culture of volunteer action by raising community awareness about the importance of civic engagement and encouraging voluntary participation in various areas of interest.
It offers information sessions for training and professional development to strengthen volunteers' skills and prepare them to gain professional experience, references, and skills in Canada.
It assists young French-speaking individuals in obtaining volunteer hours towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) by providing access to volunteer placements.
Francophone Ethnocultural Hub
The Francophone Ethnocultural Hub is an inclusive space where ethnocultural communities can gather, have fun, and celebrate. The Francophone Ethnocultural Hub aims to facilitate the integration and flourishing of individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds within the Francophone community of London. Serving as a meeting point for French-speaking newcomers and members of ethnocultural communities, it provides a space for exchange and mutual support.
The Francophone Ethnocultural Hub organizes:
Connections with ethnocultural communities from various countries
Community events
Sports activities
Cultural and tourist outings
Conferences
Mentoring Program
The Mentoring Program provides academic support to students, particularly those facing learning difficulties. Qualified facilitators and volunteers assist students in understanding concepts, completing their homework, and improving their study skills. Sessions take place in a conducive learning environment where students can ask questions, receive personalized explanations, and develop effective learning strategies. This program aims to build students' confidence, promote their academic success, and encourage autonomy in their studies.
It also offers students:
A space to connect with others
Various sports activities
Fun and cultural activities
